We like to shout aloud that we use all British fruit and yogurt where we can. But why?
In spite of many a joke about British weather, it's actually pretty good ("perfect" say British Summer Fruits) and our farmers do produce some of the best flavoured soft fruits in the world. Which is an accolade of which we can be proud.
British growing protocols are also the strictest in the world which ensures they are the freshest, healthiest and best tasting.
With the environment in mind, it's also sensible to buy local and set a good example. We enjoy helping our Great British farmers - oh, and Farmer Bill's wife makes a pretty good ploughman's too!!
- Eating British fruits and vegetables in season is good for you.
Foods in season contain the nutrients, minerals and trace elements that our bodies need at particular times of the year.
- British food travels less from farm to shop, creating a lower carbon footprint.
Why transport food thousands of miles when there's real quality on our own doorstep?
- Local food supports a clean environment and benefits wildlife.
A well-managed family farm is a place where the resources of fertile soil and clean water are valued. Good farmers grow cover crops to prevent erosion and replace nutrients used by their crop.
- Supporting British Agriculture.
Farmers are a vanishing breed with commodity prices at historic lows, often below the cost of production, so choosing British means supporting British farmers whose work helps to keep the British countryside the way we want it to look: no farming - no countryside!
